Tarot has always been about understanding people.
How Tarot Became Part of My Life
I received my first Tarot deck in December of 1989, when I was a teenager. I didn't actually know what Tarot was at the time, and it would be a few years before I began seriously learning to read the cards.
Interestingly enough, in 7th grade science class, my science teacger Ms. Stuut had a two week special part to her course, where we practiced mental telepathy, telekenesis and other unusual science topics. This started a fascination with subjects that made me curious about how we understand ourselves and the world around us.
That curiosity led me through books, classes, and eventually to a metaphysical bookstore called the Magical Forest, where I took my first formal Tarot class about 1993. I wish I could remember my Tarot teacher's name, because that class changed the direction of my relationship with the cards, I still use some of the techniques she taught me in my practice today. It was through her teaching where I began to understand that Tarot could offer much more than predictions about what might happen next.
The Tarot can give you another way of looking at what was already happening.
In my decades of working with people, I find that sometimes we are simply too close to our own circumstances to see them clearly. Which is where tarot gives us another lens. Understanding the symbolism and metaphor of the tarot can help us recognize what may be influencing a situation, consider possibilities we haven't considered before, and sometimes see a larger picture than the one immediately in front of us.
Of course, this understanding does not mean every difficult experience needs to be turned into something positive. Life doesn't work that way. But I do believe there can be value in understanding what an experience is asking of us, what we can learn from it, and where our own choices still exist.
Over the years, Tarot has helped me do that in my own life, and it has become an important part of how I help other people do the same.
Why I Teach Tarot
One of the reasons I feel so strongly about teaching Tarot is that I want people to feel more confident making their own decisions.
I have seen how easy it can be for someone who feels uncertain or overwhelmed to begin giving too much authority to another person. A Tarot reader can offer perspective. A Reiki practitioner can support someone energetically. An astrologer can help someone understand patterns and timing. But none of those people should be taking the wheel of someone else’s life.
For me, these practices are most useful when they help someone understand themselves more clearly, consider possibilities they may not have seen before, and make their own choices with greater awareness.
You don’t have to become a professional reader to learn Tarot.
When you understand the structure and language of the cards yourself, a reading becomes more meaningful. You are able to participate in the process rather than simply receiving someone else’s interpretation. You begin developing your own understanding of what the symbols mean to you and how they relate to what is happening in your life.
My courses are designed with that in mind. You do not have to decide that you want to become a professional Tarot reader before you begin learning. You can study Tarot because you are curious, because you want to understand your own readings more deeply, or because you simply want to develop a stronger relationship with the cards.

- Develop your skills as a Tarot reader.
- Continue toward reading Tarot professionally.
For some people, personal study will be enough. Others will want to continue further, develop their skills, and eventually read for other people. I want to support both.
I want to help create thoughtful, capable Tarot readers, but I also want to help people become more comfortable looking at their own lives from different perspectives, considering new possibilities, and trusting themselves enough to make their own decisions.
That, to me, is where Tarot becomes genuinely useful.
